Learning and Networking Opportunities for College Science Education Faculty
In support of building statewide capacity and infrastructure in science education at Virginia’s colleges and universities, VISTA offers a five-day Science Education Faculty Academy. The focus of the Academy includes:
- Learning about new science education research
- Sharing effective teaching strategies
- Problem-solving to build state infrastructure
- Networking to build a community of practice
A team of university science methods educators plan and deliver the academy's instruction.
For all science education faculty, VISTA will provide an extra day to the one-day Virginia Science Education Leadership Association (VESLA) Fall meeting to focus on professional growth activities. VESLA consists of science education faculty, department heads, specialists, lead teachers, professional employees of state, regional or governmental science education resource facilities and faculty members in Virginia institutions of higher learning.

Science methods professors at the collegiate level in Virginia receive
the following forms of support:
- A five-day academy that focuses on learning about new research, sharing effective teaching strategies, problem-solving, and networking. (Lunch is provided. Room, board, and travel will be provided/reimbursed
for those who are out-of-town.) - A $2000 stipend after documentation of follow-up efforts.
- Conference registration, lodging, transportation, and meals for attending the Virginia Science Education Leadership Association (VSELA) conference (November 8, 2012).
